After the successful capture of Samhain, the ghost of Halloween, in the previous season finale, The Real Ghostbusters are back in action. In season 3 episode 1, titled "Ghost Busted", the Ghostbusters receive a call from a panicked librarian at the New York Public Library. The librarian claims that there is a ghost loose in the library and it's causing mayhem.
The Ghostbusters rush to the scene and find themselves face to face with a ghost who can't seem to make up his mind. The ghost takes on the form of various literary characters, including Dracula and Frankenstein, and tries to scare the Ghostbusters away.
Undeterred, the team tries to capture the ghost, but their proton packs fail to work. It turns out that the ghost has tampered with the packs, rendering them useless. As a result, the Ghostbusters are forced to come up with a new plan.
Meanwhile, the ghost continues to wreak havoc in the library, jumping from book to book and causing chaos wherever it goes. The Ghostbusters consult their friend and technical expert, Egon Spengler, who suggests that they use a rare device called the Ecto-Plasmic Integrator.
The Ecto-Plasmic Integrator is a complicated piece of equipment that has the ability to trap ghosts permanently. Egon warns the team that using the device is risky, and if not used properly, it could have disastrous consequences.
Despite the risks, the Ghostbusters decide to give it a try. They set up the device in the library and try to lure the ghost into it. However, the ghost proves to be too clever for them, and they fail to capture it.
Just when it seems like all hope is lost, the team remembers a quote from a book they found earlier in the library. The quote says that the only way to defeat the ghost is to defeat it through laughter. With this in mind, the Ghostbusters set out to make the ghost laugh.
They try everything from telling jokes to doing silly impersonations. At first, it doesn't seem to be working, but eventually, the ghost succumbs to their antics and starts laughing uncontrollably.
As the ghost continues to laugh, it slowly dissipates into nothingness. The Ghostbusters have successfully captured the ghost without having to use the dangerous Ecto-Plasmic Integrator.
Relieved and proud of their success, the Ghostbusters pack up their gear and leave the library, knowing that they have once again saved the day.
Overall, season 3 episode 1 of The Real Ghostbusters is a fun and entertaining episode that showcases the team's wit and resourcefulness. The use of literary characters as the ghosts adds a creative twist to the story, and the team's ability to defeat the ghost through laughter is a welcome change from the usual ghostbusting methods.
