Ep 1. The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl

The Ray Bradbury Theater is a science fiction anthology series that features different stories from the mind of the famous author Ray Bradbury. In the second season, the first episode is called "The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl". The episode is about a man named William Acton who has just committed a murder. After finishing the deed, Acton realizes that he has left behind fingerprints all over the victim's apartment and in his panicky state, he decides to go back to the scene of the crime and clean up the evidence.

Acton sneaks into the apartment and starts scrubbing every surface that he touched. He uses various methods to try and remove his fingerprints, including using cleaning supplies and even his own tongue. As he frantically tries to erase the evidence of his crime, Acton begins to obsess over every detail of the apartment. He becomes fixated on the small details of the furniture and decor, and starts to talk to himself in an effort to calm down.

As the night goes on, Acton becomes more and more paranoid. He starts to believe that the victim's ghost is watching him, and he even imagines that the police have already discovered the murder and are on their way to arrest him. Acton's mental state continues to deteriorate until he is driven to madness, unable to think of anything except the looming threat of his own punishment.

"The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl" is a suspenseful and psychologically intense episode of The Ray Bradbury Theater. As with all of Bradbury's work, the episode is masterful in its use of detail and characterization. The story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of obsession and fear, and it is a reminder that our own minds can be our worst enemies.
