The Rat Patrol is a television series set during World War II in the North African desert. The first episode of season one is titled "The Chase of Fire Raid."
In this episode, a group of soldiers called The Rat Patrol sets out on a mission to obtain information from an enemy base. The patrol is led by Sergeant Sam Troy, who is a skilled soldier and strategist. His team includes Corporals Jack Moffitt and Mark Hitchcock, and Private Tully Pettigrew.
The show begins with the introduction of the soldiers and their mission. The team learns that the Germans have a new weapon called the Flame Thrower, which they plan to use against the Allied forces. The Rat Patrol is ordered to infiltrate the enemy base, locate the Flame Thrower, and destroy it.
The Rat Patrol sets out on their mission in a jeep, driving across the desert towards the enemy base. They encounter German troops along the way and engage in a firefight. The team sustains some injuries, but they are able to overcome the enemy soldiers and continue on their way.
As they approach the base, they discover that the Germans have placed mines in their path. In order to avoid setting them off and alerting the enemy to their presence, Moffitt devises a plan to lift the jeep over the mines using a ropes and pulleys system. The plan works and they are able to continue on their mission.
Once the team reaches the enemy base, they split up and sneak into the compound. They search for the Flame Thrower and find it in a storage shed. As they prepare to destroy it, they are confronted by a German soldier. Troy engages in hand-to-hand combat with the soldier and is able to defeat him.
With the Flame Thrower destroyed, the Rat Patrol makes their way out of the base and back to their jeep. However, they are soon spotted by German troops and chased across the desert. The team engages in a thrilling pursuit, using their jeep to outmaneuver the enemy vehicles.
As the chase continues, the Rat Patrol is able to set off a powerful explosion that stops the pursuing Germans in their tracks. The team celebrates their victory and returns to their camp.
"The Chase of Fire Raid" sets the stage for the rest of the series, introducing the main characters and establishing the action-packed tone that would become a hallmark of the show. Through their daring missions and thrilling escapades, the Rat Patrol would remain one of the most popular and enduring shows of the era.
