Ryoma Echizen and the team from Seishun Academy have just defeated St. Rudolph Academy in an intense tennis match, but their victory celebration is cut short when they learn that one of their regulars, Koujirou Saeki, has quit the team. Saeki was a crucial member of the team, and his departure leaves a major hole in the lineup that must be filled quickly.
In the midst of their search for a replacement, the team watches a practice match between Rokkaku Junior High School and Hyoutei Academy. They are impressed by the skill of a Rokkaku player named Takeshi Momoshiro, and invite him to try out for the team. Momoshiro readily agrees, but Ryoma is less enthusiastic about the idea of adding another player to the team.
Despite Ryoma's reservations, Momoshiro quickly proves himself to be a valuable addition to the team. His skills as a doubles player are particularly impressive, and he quickly forms a strong partnership with Seishun's captain, Kunimitsu Tezuka.
However, Ryoma still struggles to accept Momoshiro as a regular member of the team. He is used to being the star player, and resents Momoshiro's attempts to challenge him for the top spot. When Momoshiro begins to make suggestions for improving the team's doubles strategy, Ryoma bristles at the idea of someone else dictating his playing style.
As tensions rise between Ryoma and Momoshiro, the rest of the team struggles to find a way to bring them together. They organize a doubles match between Ryoma/Momoshiro and Tezuka/Saeki (who has agreed to play as a substitute for the day). The match is intense, with all four players displaying incredible skill and determination. In the end, Ryoma and Momoshiro emerge victorious, but not before they come to a new level of understanding and respect for each other.
With Momoshiro officially joining the team as a regular, Seishun Academy is now stronger than ever. They prepare to face their next opponent, Fudomine Academy, with renewed energy and enthusiasm. As the episode ends, Ryoma reflects on the lessons he has learned about teamwork and the importance of trusting his fellow players. He knows that he still has much to learn, but he is ready to face any challenge that comes his way.
