Jarod, the Pretender, is taking on a new identity as a pilot in order to track down the truth behind the crash of a private airplane that killed a wealthy businessman and his wife. The official investigation concluded that it was an accident caused by pilot error, but Jarod suspects foul play.
He gets hired at the same company where the doomed flight originated from, and quickly learns that the chief mechanic, Gene, has been covering up maintenance issues on the planes in order to save money for the company. Jarod realizes that this could have been a contributing factor to the crash and starts to dig deeper.
He forms a bond with the flight attendant on the ill-fated flight, Janie, and helps her overcome her guilt and trauma from the experience. Meanwhile, as he investigates further, he discovers that the businessman's son, a pilot himself, may have been involved in a sabotage plot.
With the help of his old friend and ally Sydney, Jarod is able to piece together the real cause of the crash and exposes the corruption and greed within the company. In the end, Jarod helps Janie find closure and justice for the victims of the crash.
Throughout the episode, we see flashbacks of Jarod's time in "the Centre," the mysterious organization that trained him to become a Pretender. These flashbacks give us insight into why Jarod is so empathetic towards the victims and why he feels compelled to help them. We also see glimpses of the sinister intentions of "the Centre," hinting at a larger overarching plot that will unravel as the series progresses.
