The Prancing Elites Project is a reality show that follows a group of five black gay and gender non-conforming dancers who call themselves The Prancing Elites. Season 1 episode 9, entitled Wedding Crashers, sees the Elites being invited to perform at a wedding. The episode is approximately 40 minutes long.
The episode begins with the team discussing the upcoming wedding performance. They are excited about it, but also nervous since they have never performed at a wedding before. They start by discussing what kind of routine they should do, and one of the Elites suggests they do a tribute to Michael Jackson. Another suggests that they do their signature style of dancing, which is a cross between jazz, hip hop, and majorette dance.
As the team prepares for the wedding, they also discuss the challenges they face as gay and gender non-conforming dancers in the conservative South. They have faced a lot of criticism for their style of dancing, which often involves wearing female clothing and high heels. However, they are determined to break down barriers and keep dancing.
When they arrive at the wedding, they are greeted warmly by the bride and groom, but the other guests seem less than thrilled. Undeterred, the Elites start their routine, which is a high energy and highly choreographed dance. Despite some initial skepticism, the guests start to get into the performance.
However, things take a turn when the father of the bride interrupts the performance and demands that they leave. He is clearly uncomfortable with the Elites' style of dancing and feels that they are inappropriate for a wedding. The Elites are hurt and frustrated, but they handle the situation with grace. They pack up their things and leave, but not before the groom comes up to them and gives them a hug, thanking them for their performance and apologizing for his father's behavior.
Back at home, the team reflects on the experience. They talk about how it was difficult to be rejected like that, but also how it's not the first time. They have faced discrimination and criticism before, but they refuse to let it get them down. They know that what they are doing is important, and that they are paving the way for other LGBTQ+ performers.
The episode ends with the Elites practicing for their next performance, more determined than ever to keep dancing and spreading their message of acceptance and love.
