In season 29 episode 7 of The Pioneer Woman, titled "Kid Crew Cooking," viewers get to see Ree Drummond cooking alongside a special group of young guest chefs.
The episode begins with Ree introducing her daughter's friends, who make up the "kid crew" for the day. The group consists of five kids between the ages of eight and eleven, all of whom are excited to learn some new cooking skills and help Ree prepare a delicious meal.
First up on the menu is a classic comfort food dish: macaroni and cheese. Ree and the kids start by making a simple roux to create a creamy sauce, then mix in some cooked macaroni and plenty of cheese. As the dish bakes in the oven, the group moves on to the main course: chicken parmesan.
For the chicken parmesan, the kids take turns pounding out the chicken breasts with a meat mallet and coating them in breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese. Ree shows them some helpful tips for frying the chicken until it's golden brown and crispy.
Once the chicken is cooked, it's time to assemble the dish. Ree shows the kids how to spoon some sauce onto the bottom of a baking dish, add the fried chicken on top, and sprinkle more cheese and sauce over the top. After a few minutes in the oven, the chicken parmesan is hot and bubbly and ready to serve.
To add some color and nutrition to the meal, Ree and the kids whip up a side of roasted carrots and Brussels sprouts with a simple honey-butter drizzle. The kids help chop the vegetables and toss them with some olive oil, salt, and pepper before popping them into the oven to roast.
Finally, it's time for dessert. Ree and the kids make a simple, no-bake cookie recipe that's perfect for little hands to help with. The cookies are made with a mixture of peanut butter, oatmeal, and chocolate chips, and only take a few minutes to prepare. The kids have a blast shaping the dough into cookies and drizzling some extra chocolate over the top.
Throughout the episode, Ree encourages the kids to try new things, ask questions, and take pride in their cooking. The "kid crew" is enthusiastic and playful, making for a fun and lighthearted episode that's perfect for family viewing. As always, Ree's warm and welcoming personality shines through, making viewers feel like they're cooking right alongside her and the kids.
