Ep 16. Trial Of Partridge One
- January 19, 1973
The Partridge Family season 3 episode 16 is entitled "Trial Of Partridge One". The episode begins with Shirley Partridge receiving a speeding ticket from a new young police officer, Officer Jenkins. Shirley decides to fight the ticket in court, but when she appears before the judge, she accidentally insults him and is found guilty. The judge sentences her to thirty days in jail and a $500 fine.
The family is shocked by this turn of events and decides to help Shirley appeal the sentence. They seek the assistance of an old family friend and attorney, Hank Adams, who agrees to take the case. Hank presents an appeal to the court, arguing that Shirley was not given a fair trial due to the judge's bias against her. He requests a retrial, which is granted.
The family works hard to prepare for the retrial. Keith Partridge acts as Shirley's defense attorney, while the rest of the family serve as witnesses and character witnesses. Officer Jenkins is also called to the stand to testify about the traffic stop.
During the trial, Keith presents evidence that Shirley was not speeding and was unfairly targeted by Officer Jenkins due to her celebrity status. The family's testimony also supports Shirley's argument and paints her in a positive light. However, things take a turn when the judge reveals that he is a fan of the Partridge Family and has been since the beginning. He wants to meet the family and even suggests that they perform a song in court.
The family is hesitant to comply with the judge's request but eventually agrees to perform a song for the court. They perform "I Woke Up In Love This Morning", which the judge enjoys. After the performance, the judge overturns the guilty verdict and clears Shirley of all charges. He even requests an autograph from the family before dismissing the case.
The episode ends with the family celebrating their victory and learning an important lesson about the justice system. While it may not always be fair, the truth and a good defense can win the day.
