Michael Scott is preparing for his departure from Dunder Mifflin in the season 7 finale of The Office titled "Goodbye, Michael." It's been announced that Michael will be leaving the Scranton branch to move to Colorado with his fiancée, Holly.
The bulk of the episode focuses on Michael's goodbyes with each of his colleagues, from the in-office staff to the warehouse crew. Throughout the episode, we see Michael struggle with the reality of his departure and his attempts to put on a brave face for his coworkers.
For many fans, "Goodbye, Michael" is the most emotional episode of The Office. The show masterfully balances moments of levity (like Michael's "that's what she said" joke during his farewell) with heartbreaking goodbyes. Michael's final scenes with Jim and Dwight are particularly poignant, as we see the true love and respect that Michael has for both of them.
As Michael makes his way out of the office for the last time, we see that some things will truly never change. Michael hands off a "World's Best Boss" mug to his replacement, Deangelo Vickers (played by Will Ferrell), who promptly drops it. It's a small moment, but it's a reminder that even with Michael gone, Dunder Mifflin will still be Dunder Mifflin.
The episode ends with a montage of Michael's greatest moments on the show. It's a bittersweet reminder of all the laughs and tears that he brought to the series. As the montage ends, we see Michael, in his car, driving away from Scranton for the last time. It's a beautiful ending to a beautiful character arc, and fans of The Office will remember "Goodbye, Michael" for years to come.
