The mysterious Stranger lashes out when Erin touches one of the stones the Stranger is using to build a small tower which bears a significant resemblance to the group of rocks in the forbidden zone. The Ants and Barbs agree that they can't trust Sunni or Harmony, and decide on an unexpected resolution with the Bird tribe as the very future of all concerned is under real threat.

Representatives of the mysterious Bird tribe arrive at the Privileged complex to meet with Harmony and uneasiness arises when their leader claims that the birds always "take whatever they want." Dan and Erin plan to journey to the forbidden zone to see if they can obtain more information and interpret the true meaning of Faygar's prophecies.

Now in control of the Privileged tribe, the Harmony panics when she discovers she has a spot. That is not the perfection she demands in everyone, let alone herself. Sky and Dan arrive back at the Ant camp with the Stranger as a prisoner and return all of the items he stole. Faygar is concerned about the prophecies and prays for guidance, as the Stranger begins to make ominous patterns with grain.

After escaping the Discard camp, Sky and Dan journey back to the Ant camp and discover the Stranger watching them. They pursue the Stranger and find all the items he has stolen from the Ant camp. The Ants and Barbs decide to release Flame. But under strict conditions. Some consider that it is a truly unwise course of action.

The Stranger has a close encounter with the machines. At the Ant camp Faygar is upset that Leanne and Erin haven't been doing their chores. Flame adjusts to his life as a prisoner. Sky and Dan plan an escape. Faygar and Zora clash about their beliefs.

The Ants and Barbs celebrate their victory against the Privileged and ponder what to do about Flame who is now held prisoner. Shadow is brought into the Discard camp by Warp guards and Sky discusses escaping. 'Things' begin to go missing in the Ant camp, including Erin's bike, and the Stranger continues to furtively observe all the inhabitants.

The Ants and Barbs prepare for the pass ball game with the Privileged. Harmony and Shadow are unhappy that Flame has agreed to play against the Ants and Barbs because losing isn't an option. Faygar, Gwyn and Sky discuss the rumors involving Sky. And a stranger arrives at the Ant camp.

Zora is alarmed that discipline within the tribe is in decline when she wakes to find the camp deserted and members of the tribe lazily fast asleep in bed. As a punishment she forces everyone to work without breakfast. Sky discovers that the Discard's attitude towards him has changed after a rumor that he's descended from Zoot. The Ants and Barbs continue building their defenses.

Sky, Faygar and Gwyn continue their work with the Discards while remaining prisoners at the Privileged stronghold. In the Ant camp tensions rise as Cass and Omar are unhappy about sharing the camp with the Barbs. Erin falls in love with Kwarli's bike and causes havoc as he struggles to learn how to use it.

Flame is optimistic but clearly uneasy in reality as he replaces Shadow as an opponent for hand to hand combat with Sky. In the Ant camp Zora spearheads a plan for new defences for the camp. But her bossiness isn't going down well with many of the Ant tribe. And Dan believes Gwyn has been captured by the Warps.

Zora moves the Barbs to the Ants' camp. Some Ants aren't too happy to have new neighbors. Flame instructs the invincible Shadow to fight Sky in hand to hand combat, so everyone can witness Sky's real weaknesses. Kwarli discovers an old contraption in the Ant camp which he believes was once called a bicycle, and Erin is intrigued by the notion that it could be a descendent of an ancient machine.

Omar and Kwarli return from trying to find Sky and Faygar. Omar and Jag put aside their differences in order to work together. Shadow and Harmony bully Sky and Faygar. Harmony reveals the Privileged have a spy at the Ant camp. And Shadow is sent to deliver a message.

After realizing that they have both been so suspicious of each other, Harmony and Shadow consider teaming up, believing that they both have a lot in common. At the Barb camp Dan wonders whether Gwyn truly wants to be a Barb or not. Sky worries if he is a descendant of the ancient ancestor, Zoot - the source of much frightening folklore.

After the Ant camp is damaged by an out of control machine, the hens have run away. Sal tries to keep the eggs warm. Sky and Omar leave to track down the rampaging machine and to try somehow to disable it before it does any more damage. Dan attempts to recruit Gwyn to the Barb tribe but not everyone is welcoming. Shadow and Harmony both spy on one another for Flame.

A storm is approaching. Sky and Faygar journey to the cave to investigate Sky's discovery but Faygar doesn't like what she finds. Gwyn files her first spy report to Shadow. Leanne and Sal attempt to bake bread. And Erin wishes he didn't try to get out of the daily chores as his fascination and fear of the machines and forbidden zone is forever present.

Dan is reunited with his long lost sister, Gwyn, while out hunting with Erin. Zora welcomes her and asks her to share information on the Privileged. After being elected leader, Sky tries to straighten everything out by creating a defense system with the help of Kwarli. And Flame's desire for information about Sky rages on - and on.

The morning after his fight with Flame, Sky awakens in a cave and finds some artifacts and ancient etchings in the stone, including one of a teardrop that he recognizes. Meanwhile, Flame, furious that Sky beat him, wallows in misery. Faygar decides to visit Zora. Dan joins the Barb tribe.

During his strict training process, Flame searches for a suitable sparring partner as preparations continue for the attack on the Ant tribe. Gwyn tries to settle into her life as a Privileged but can't help missing her brother. The Ants learn that the Warps have tricked them. After running away from the Ant tribe, Dan finds himself alone in the forest. Zora tries to contain her second-in-command, who doesn't trust Sky. At the Ant camp, Omar is happy that Sky and Dan have both left. In the Privileged tribe, Shadow prepares the Warps, for an attack on the Ant camp. Shadow advises that they will be ready in a week but Flame wants the attack to happen the next day.

After Sky is accused of being a spy, the spiritual healer, Faygar, suggests that he be given a chance anyway. But other members disagree. In the Privileged tribe, Flame and his scheming deputy, Harmony, discuss strategy regarding the Ants. At the Barb camp, Erin decides to go hunting alone for the first time. But he goes too close to the forbidden zone and encounters the ominous machines.
