Merry Crap-Mas is the ninth episode of the first season of the comedy series The Neighbors. The show follows the Weaver family who moves into a new gated community only to realize that their neighbors are all aliens from the planet Zabvron. The episode revolves around the holiday season.
The episode begins with the Weavers preparing for Christmas while their alien neighbours, the Bird-Kersees, don’t really understand what Christmas is all about. But influenced by their human neighbors, the aliens start to decorate their house with the help of Debbie and Marty Weaver. Meanwhile, Marty and his son Max decide to chop down a tree in a park which prompts a visit from the park ranger.
Reggie Jackson, one of the Zabvronians, starts to get excited about the holiday and even dresses up as Santa Claus. He sets out to deliver presents to all the kids in the neighbourhood along with Debbie. However, things take a turn for the worse when Reggie accidentally drops Debbie’s cellphone in a neighbour's chimney. The entire neighbourhood becomes convinced that Debbie is a burglar and starts to shun her. She becomes the talk of the town and is even featured on the local news as the Christmas burglar.
Meanwhile, Marty and Max try to surprise the family with a new Christmas tree but end up getting a tree that is way too big for the living room. As a result, they have to cut down the top of the tree and make a small Christmas bush instead. Jackie Joyner-Kersee, another Zabvronian, helps decorate the tree and even creates a Zabvronian ceremony to celebrate Christmas.
Later, Debbie realizes that Reggie dropped her phone in the chimney. She, Larry Bird, and Jackie try to rescue the phone but end up getting their hands stuck. When the police arrive, it seems like they are going to be arrested for burglary, but luckily Debbie’s kids come up with a plan to free them.
The episode ends with the Weavers and the Bird-Kersees exchanging gifts and enjoying Christmas dinner together. Marty gives the aliens a book about Christmas traditions, and they try to use what they learned to fit in. They even sing Christmas carols, but their voices being completely off-key ruins the moment.
Merry Crap-Mas is a hilarious take on the holiday season, incorporating the differences in culture between humans and aliens in a lighthearted manner. It highlights the misadventures that can happen during the holiday season and at the same time, celebrates the beauty of family, love and friendship. The episode is entertaining and provides a glimpse into the quirky and fun world of The Neighbors.
