The Nanny season 3 episode 3, titled "Dope Diamond", follows the eccentric and fashionable Fran Fine as she continues her job as the nanny for the Sheffield family, consisting of Maxwell Sheffield and his three children: Maggie, Brighton, and Grace.
The episode starts with Fran accompanying Maxwell to an auction where he bids on a rare diamond called "The Goodman Diamond". Meanwhile, Fran’s mother, Sylvia, and her grandmother, Yetta, plan to open a new beauty salon in Flushing and they want Fran to give them some money to invest in it.
As the auction proceeds, surreal characters, including a billionaire, a socialite, and a group of Russian mafia, show up to bid on the diamond, but Maxwell’s determination to win becomes quite apparent, with a winning bid of $50,000. But as Maxwell shows the diamond off to Fran, he suddenly realizes that he has been swindled - the diamond is a fake!
In the midst of these events, Fran and her family also become aware of a new drug ring in town, dealing in "dope diamonds". The drug dealers are using diamonds to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, and the diamonds end up in unsuspecting hands. When Fran discovers that the Goodman Diamond is actually a dope diamond, she decides to help Maxwell retrieve his money and restore the diamond's real value.
Fran and Maxwell head to the shady part of town, where they meet with a notorious drug dealer, Tony Cozotti. Fran poses as a wealthy socialite, and Cozotti falls for her ruse, showing her the "real" Goodman Diamond, which is actually a smaller, but genuine, diamond. Fran and Maxwell then team up to trick the dealer, retrieve Maxwell's money, and escape unscathed.
Meanwhile, Yetta and Sylvia's beauty salon project is not going according to plan, as the pair learn the harsh realities of running a business. Yetta and Sylvia argue over a hair dryer and ultimately decide to dissolve their partnership and focus on their own solo endeavors.
In the end, Fran and Maxwell celebrate their victory with a night out, appreciating each other's company and the lessons learned along the way.
The episode "Dope Diamond" is a perfect blend of comedy, suspense, and action, showcasing Fran's quick wit and clever solutions to unexpected problems. The chemistry between Fran and Maxwell is palpable, and the episode also sheds light on the importance of family and sticking together through thick and thin.
