- April 14, 1980
Guest: Paul Simon
The Muppets welcome renowned American singer-songwriter Paul Simon to their stage on season 5, episode 10 of The Muppet Show. Simon is known for his work both as a solo artist and as part of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, and he brings his unique sound to the Muppet Theater.
In this episode, the Muppets pull out all the stops to entertain their musical guest. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy create a spoof of Simon & Garfunkel's hit song "The Sound of Silence," while Fozzie Bear performs a stand-up routine that falls flat. The Swedish Chef also prepares a dish for Simon, though it may not be to his liking.
Other Muppets get their chance to shine as well. Gonzo performs a daredevil stunt involving a cannon, while Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem rock out with Simon on some of his most famous tunes. And of course, Animal goes wild on the drums.
Throughout the show, Simon interacts with the various Muppets, showcasing his comedic side alongside his musical talent. He shares stories about his life and career, and even joins in on some of the Muppets' wackier antics.
As usual, chaos ensues behind the scenes as well. Scooter struggles to keep the show running smoothly, while Statler and Waldorf provide their trademark heckling from the theater box. The episode climaxes in a grand finale featuring all the Muppets and Simon singing a lively rendition of "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)."
Overall, season 5, episode 10 of The Muppet Show featuring Paul Simon is a must-watch for fans of both Simon and the Muppets. It's a fun and wild ride full of comedy and music, with plenty of surprises along the way.
