In The Middle season 8 episode 3 titled "Halloween VIII: The Heckoning", the Hecks are back and ready to celebrate Halloween in their typical quirky style. Frankie takes charge of the holiday festivities, determined to make it the best Halloween ever despite the family's financial difficulties. She ropes in her husband Mike and their kids Axl, Sue, and Brick to help her put together some spooky decorations and plan out the perfect Halloween night.
Meanwhile, Axl and his girlfriend Lexie plan to dress up as the iconic couple Bonnie and Clyde, but when Lexie has to back out at the last minute, Axl is left scrambling to find a new partner in crime. Sue faces a similar disappointment when her friends decide to ditch her for the popular crowd, leaving her without a group to celebrate with. And Brick, true to form, goes way overboard with his Halloween costume, much to the bemusement of his family.
