The sixth season of the series consists of 24 episodes, and was aired from September 2014 to May 2015.
Episode 18 of season 6, titled Operation Infiltration, follows the Heck family as they prepare to attend the wedding of their cousin, Jared. The episode starts with Frankie, played by Patricia Heaton, and Mike, played by Neil Flynn, discussing their plan for attending the wedding. They decide to infiltrate the bride’s family in order to find out what they are like, and to avoid any potential awkward situations during the wedding.
As the family prepares for the trip, they face a string of mishaps, from Sue’s (played by Eden Sher) bad haircut to Brick’s (played by Atticus Shaffer) refusal to wear matching clothes with the family. Despite the chaos, the Heck family manages to make it to the wedding venue.
As soon as they arrive, they begin their mission to infiltrate the bride’s family. Frankie and Mike manage to strike up a conversation with one of the groomsmen, and soon find themselves being invited to join the groomsmen’s group. Sue and Brick, on the other hand, are left to interact with the bride’s family, who turn out to be intimidating and difficult to connect with.
As the day progresses, the Heck family finds themselves caught up in the excitement of the wedding, with Mike and Frankie enjoying their time with the groomsmen, and Sue and Brick bonding with the bride’s younger siblings. Meanwhile, Axl (played by Charlie McDermott) finds himself being courted by a former girlfriend who is attending the wedding.
As the reception begins, the Heck family becomes even more involved in the wedding celebration. They find themselves dancing, eating, and drinking with the other guests, and are having a great time. However, things take a turn for the worse when one of the guests takes offense to Sue’s dress, calling it inappropriate. Sue is humiliated and runs out of the reception.
The rest of the Heck family tries to comfort Sue, and soon they decide to leave the wedding altogether. As they leave, they realize that their mission to infiltrate the bride’s family has been a failure. However, they also realize that they have had a great time together as a family, and that is what really matters.
The episode ends with the Heck family driving back home, reminiscing about the wedding and the fun they had. Sue is still upset about the comment on her dress, but the family reassures her that she looked beautiful, and that she should not let the opinion of one person bother her.
In conclusion, Operation Infiltration is a heartwarming episode that revolves around the Heck family attending a family wedding. The episode explores the different dynamics that the Heck family shares, from Mike and Frankie’s teamwork to Sue and Brick’s individual struggles to fit in. The episode also highlights the importance of family, and the fact that even though things might not go as planned, what really matters is the time we spend together as a family.
