It's Halloween in Orson, Indiana, and the Heck family is gearing up for their annual tradition of driving around the neighborhood and scoping out the best Halloween decorations. But this year, there's a new addition to the group – Axl's girlfriend Devin. And while Axl is annoyed at first that his girlfriend is tagging along, he soon realizes that it might be beneficial to have an extra set of eyes on the lookout for the best decorations.
Meanwhile, Sue is excited to finally be able to go out on Halloween without her parents hovering over her. But when her longtime crush, Sean, invites her to a party, she panics and begs her mom to come along as her chaperone. Frankie begrudgingly agrees but quickly realizes that she's in over her head when she's tasked with driving a group of rowdy teenagers to the party. Will Frankie be able to handle the responsibility? And will Sue finally get her chance with Sean?
Brick, on the other hand, is content to stay behind and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. But when he realizes that he's running low on candy, he enlists the help of his neighbor, Mrs. Nethercott, to help him restock. However, their quest for candy turns into an unexpected adventure when they stumble upon Mrs. Nethercott's secret stash of "horror movies" in her basement. Can Brick handle the terrifying content?
As the Heck family drives around the neighborhood, they encounter some interesting sights – including a group of teenagers dressed up as zombies and a family that has turned their entire front yard into a haunted house. But when they come across a particularly impressive display, Axl decides to take things to the next level by egging the house. Devin is less than thrilled with his antics and challenges Axl to think about whether he's willing to risk their relationship for a few cheap thrills.
Overall, the episode is a fun and lighthearted take on Halloween traditions, with the added bonus of some heartfelt character development. It's a must-watch for fans of the show and a great introduction for those new to The Middle.
