It's Halloween in Orson, Indiana, and the Heck family is getting into the spirit of the holiday. This episode of The Middle finds the entire family dealing with different Halloween-related issues.
For Axl, Halloween is all about the parties. He's hoping to impress Devin Levin, his crush, with his costume and dance moves at a local party. However, things don't go as planned when he shows up at the party only to find that Devin is dressed as a nun. Meanwhile, Sue is excited about her first high school Halloween party. After meticulously planning out her costume and makeup, she realizes that the party is not what she expected and that she might be too old for it.
As for Brick, he's excited about the tradition of "Devil's Night" - a night where kids in the neighborhood play pranks on each other. Brick is looking forward to pulling some pranks of his own, but is disappointed when he realizes that he's not taken seriously by his peers.
Mike, on the other hand, is dealing with a different kind of Halloween problem. He's upset that he's not being taken seriously by his colleagues at work, who have made fun of his homemade costume. With the help of his friend at work, Big Mike, he decides to take control of the situation by playing a practical joke on his coworkers.
Frankie, however, is focused on making Halloween special for her family. She wants to decorate the house, pick out the perfect pumpkin, and make homemade treats for the trick or treaters. However, her plans don't go quite as expected, with numerous mishaps along the way.
Throughout the course of the episode, the Heck family navigates their individual Halloween challenges, while still coming together as a family to celebrate the holiday. The episode highlights the unique ways in which each member of the family approaches the holiday and showcases the importance of family traditions.
