In the second season of the iconic 1970s sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, episode 21 is titled "Where There's Smoke, There's Rhoda." The episode starts off with Mary Richards, the assistant news producer at WJM-TV, receiving an unexpected invitation to a high school reunion. Unsure of her decision to attend, Mary turns to her best friend and upstairs neighbor, Rhoda Morgenstern, for advice.
Rhoda, a sharp-tongued New Yorker who works as a window dresser, tells Mary that going to the reunion is a terrible idea, especially since Mary didn't have the greatest high school experience. But Mary is determined to prove to her classmates that she's more confident and successful than they ever imagined.
As Mary prepares for the reunion, Rhoda is dealing with her own issues. Her fashion career is at a standstill, and she's feeling unfulfilled in her personal life. When Rhoda goes to a yoga class to try and find some peace of mind, she ends up meeting a handsome and charming man named Jim, who is also struggling with some personal demons.
As the night of the reunion approaches, Mary and Rhoda both find themselves in tough spots. Mary is trying to impress her former classmates, but things don't go as planned when she accidentally starts a small fire in the hotel where the reunion is being held. Meanwhile, Rhoda's budding romance with Jim hits a bump in the road when he realizes he's not ready for a serious relationship.
Despite these setbacks, Mary and Rhoda remain the best of friends, always there to support each other through thick and thin.
