In The Mallorca Files season 1 episode 5, titled "To Kill a Stag," viewers follow the daily activities of two detectives in the Spanish Island of Mallorca: Miranda Blake and Max Winter. This episode starts with a new case that Miranda and Max are tasked with solving. They are called to an aristocratic estate where a stag was found dead.
As they arrive on the estate, they quickly realize that this is not just a case of animal poaching. The stag was practically executed, which leads them to suspect that someone was out for revenge against the estate owner or someone associated with them. They start their investigation by talking to the gamekeeper who discovered the stag, but he is unable to provide them with any clear leads.
Later, Miranda and Max start to interview the estate workers and family members, but everyone seems to have alibis that make them innocent of the crime. The two detectives also discover that just before the stag was killed, the estate owner had received a threatening letter. The letter accuses the estate owner of some wrongdoing and warns him of consequences should he not comply to the writer's requests. However, the estate owner has no idea who could have sent him such anonymous letters.
In the course of their investigation, Miranda and Max discover that the estate owner, a wealthy British businessman, has some questionable past and was a former businessman turned entrepreneur, and the deal that earned him his fortune may not have been so legit. Stuck with no solid leads, they decide to look into the estate owner's past business ventures for any connections to the present case.
Their efforts ultimately lead them to a chase scene, where they are pursuing a suspect that was spotted on the estate when the stag was killed. They follow this person deep into the countryside, and just when they think they have lost their lead, they come across a crucial piece of evidence that leads them to the real culprit. The pacing of the episode picks up in this scene and the stunning backdrop of the Spanish countryside adds to the tension.
In the end, the case is solved and the murderer is brought to justice. The duo's successful solve earns them a warm meal and an evening of relaxation, but the episode ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, raising questions about what will be their next case and what adventure awaits them on the Spanish Island of Mallorca.
Overall, the episode effectively continues to explore the dynamic between Miranda and Max while offering a strong self-contained mystery. It adds to the character work we have seen with Miranda and Max's Detective with their sharps observant acumen. The Mallorca Files season 1 episode 5 is an overall well put puzzle, and it reveals that the series is an immersive, thrilling, and engaging crime show.
