Miss Frizzle and her class take a ride on the magic school bus to an amusement park, where they encounter a baseball exhibit. Phoebe is thrilled to discover that her hero, Mets pitcher Barry Bonds, is visiting the exhibit, while Keesha is less than impressed. The class learns about the science of baseball, including the physics behind a thrown ball and the properties of the materials used to make baseballs and bats.
As they explore the exhibit, they discover that something strange is happening with the displays. The baseballs are disappearing, and the players on the field seem to be moving in slow motion. Miss Frizzle discovers that the exhibit's curator is using a special machine to slow time so that he can witness every play of every game in the exhibit.
The class teams up to stop the curator and restore time to its normal speed. Arnold uses his knowledge of physics to create a makeshift lever to turn off the machine, but it's Phoebe who ultimately saves the day. She uses her knowledge of baseball to hit the machine's off switch with a bat, restoring time to its normal flow.
In the end, the class meets Barry Bonds, who is impressed with their knowledge of the science of baseball. Keesha even learns to appreciate the sport, admitting that there's more to it than meets the eye.
