Lucy and John Wayne is an episode from season 5 of The Lucy Show, a popular comedic television series from the 1960s starring the iconic actress Lucille Ball.
In this episode, Lucy Carmichael, a widowed single mother who works as a secretary at a bank in Danfield, tries to impress her boss Mr. Mooney by convincing John Wayne, the famous Hollywood actor, to shoot a commercial for their branch. Despite the odds, Lucy, who is a huge fan of John Wayne, manages to get an audience with him when he comes to town to participate in the annual rodeo.
Dressed up in a cowboy outfit, Lucy sneaks into Wayne's hotel room posing as a reporter from a local newspaper, hoping to convince him to do the commercial. However, her plans go awry when she inadvertently knocks Wayne out cold with a vase. Lucy frantically tries to revive him, but to no avail. When Wayne finally wakes up, he is convinced that he is in the wild west and has been kidnapped by Indians.
Lucy, desperate to salvage the situation, plays along with Wayne's delusion and pretends to be a Native American princess named "Falling Lucy". Together, they embark on a wild adventure, dodging imaginary arrows and battling imaginary foes, all while Lucy tries to convince Wayne to shoot the commercial.
Meanwhile, back in Danfield, Mr. Mooney is anxiously waiting for Lucy's return with Wayne, unaware of the chaos that has ensued. As the day wears on, he becomes increasingly impatient and starts to worry that Lucy has run off with the actor. He enlists the help of Lucy's neighbor Vivian, who joins him in a frantic search for Lucy.
As night falls, Lucy and Wayne finally make it back to Danfield, exhausted but triumphant. They burst into Mr. Mooney's office, still in their cowboy and Indian costumes, to pitch the commercial to him. Mooney is initially appalled, but when he learns that Lucy has secured Wayne's endorsement, he is overjoyed and readily agrees to the idea.
In the end, Lucy and Wayne part ways, having had a memorable day together. Lucy returns home to her children, where she reflects on the wild adventure she just had, still dressed in her cowboy outfit.
Overall, Lucy and John Wayne is an entertaining episode that showcases Lucille Ball's comedic chops and her ability to play off of other iconic performers. Fans of the show and admirers of classic Hollywood will surely enjoy this playful and imaginative episode.
