Lucy, the Starmaker is the 25th episode of the first season of The Lucy Show. In this episode, Lucy Carmichael's talent for finding stars is put to the test when she discovers a young, talented singer who is down on his luck. Lucy decides to take the singer under her wing and give him a shot at stardom. However, Lucy soon discovers that managing a fledgling star's career is not as easy as she thought it would be.
The episode begins with Lucy and her friend Vivian heading to the Palisades music festival. Lucy is excited to attend the festival, as she is a big fan of the musician who will be performing that night. However, when they arrive, the festival is cancelled due to the musician's sudden illness. Lucy is disappointed but determined to still have a good time. As they walk around the festival grounds, Lucy hears a young man singing. She is immediately impressed by his talent and strikes up a conversation with him. The young man reveals that he is a struggling musician and has been looking for a break for a long time. Lucy sees an opportunity to help the young man and decides to take him under her wing.
Lucy's first order of business as the young man's manager is to get him a gig at a local nightclub. However, when they arrive at the club, the owner is initially unimpressed by the young man's talent. Lucy begs the owner for a chance and promises that the young man will be a hit. The owner agrees to give the young man a chance, but warns Lucy that if he doesn't perform well, he will not be invited back.
On the night of the performance, Lucy is nervous and excited for the young man. When he takes the stage, he is nervous at first but quickly finds his groove. The audience is thrilled by his performance, and he is a hit. Lucy is filled with pride and feels like she has at last found her calling as a star maker.
Over the next few days, Lucy throws herself into managing the young man's career. She sets up auditions, makes phone calls, and does everything she can to get him noticed. However, it soon becomes clear that managing a star's career requires a lot of time and effort. Lucy is constantly on the phone, juggling appointments, and trying to make sure that everything goes smoothly. She even dreams about the young man's career, and wakes up in a cold sweat thinking about the countless details she needs to take care of.
Despite the stress and hard work, Lucy persists. She is determined to help the young man succeed, no matter what it takes. Finally, her hard work pays off, and the young man is offered a recording contract. Lucy is overjoyed and feels like all of her efforts have been worth it. However, when the young man's manager steps in and takes over, Lucy is left feeling empty and unfulfilled. She realizes that while she may have a talent for finding stars, managing their careers is not something she wants to do full-time.
In the end, Lucy decides to take a step back and let the young man's manager handle things. She is happy to have played a part in his success and glad that he is now on the road to stardom. As she sees the young man off, she knows that she may never make it as a full-time star maker, but she is content to know that she has at least helped one person on their journey to success.
