After the intense events of the last season, "The Legend of Korra" season 4 episode 2 titled "Korra Alone" starts with the Avatar, Korra, still recovering from her injuries both physical and emotional. She decides to embark on a journey of self-discovery to reconnect with herself and relearn what it means to be the Avatar.
The episode takes place over several years, starting right after the series finale and then jumping to three years later. Korra visits a shady spirit swamp in search of guidance but is attacked by strange visions and spirit monsters. This experience exacerbates her PTSD symptoms, causing her to have flashbacks to her most traumatic moments. Realizing she is not yet ready, Korra decides to take time off and travel the world to rediscover her spiritual self.
As she travels, Korra struggles with her physical limitations and fears that she may not be able to reclaim her former strength. Her journey takes her to a small and remote Earth Kingdom village where she discovers a fighting style that emphasizes evasion and redirection of attacks. She begins to train in this new style with a master named Toph, who teaches her the art of "listening" to the earth's vibrations, allowing her to "see" and sense everything around her.
During her stay in the Earth Kingdom, Korra also befriends a young girl named Kuvira, who shares her desire to help others and to make the world a better place. Kuvira admires Korra and looks up to her as a role model, cementing the Avatar's resolve to reclaim her position as a leader and to use her powers for good.
However, Korra's trauma still lingers, and she finds herself haunted by her past experiences and unable to enter the Avatar State. She briefly tries to contact her previous lives, but when she finds that she is unable to connect with them, she realizes that she is truly and completely alone.
At the end of the episode, Korra decides to leave Toph's village and continue her journey solo. She now has a renewed sense of purpose and understands that in order to help others, she must first help herself. The episode ends with Korra facing a future that remains uncertain, but with a newfound strength and determination to confront whatever comes her way.
Overall, "The Legend of Korra" season 4 episode 2 is a powerful and moving exploration of Korra's battle with PTSD and her road to recovery. The episode's themes of self-discovery, friendship, and perseverance make it a standout installment in the series, and it sets the stage for what promises to be an emotional and action-packed final season.
