On the eighth episode of the fifth season of The Late Late Show with James Corden, which aired on September 16th, 2019, the host welcomed three talented guests to the show. The first guest was Constance Wu, the American actress, who was there to talk about her latest film, "Hustlers." James Corden and Constance Wu had a fun conversation about the film, her role in it, and the cast and crew. They also discussed the difference between acting in films and TV shows and how Constance got her breakthrough role in "Fresh Off the Boat."
The second guest was Neil Patrick Harris, the American actor, comedian, singer, and producer, who is best known for his roles in "How I Met Your Mother," "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," and "A Series of Unfortunate Events." Neil joined James on the couch and talked about his new variety show, "NBC's Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris," which was airing at the time. The two also reminisced about Neil's previous appearances on the show, including his karaoke battle with Tom Hanks and his performance of the opening number from "Hamilton." They also jousted about their favorite musical numbers.
Finally, the musical guest for the episode was Sheryl Crow. The nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer performed her hit song "Prove You Wrong" from her latest album, "Threads." After her performance, she sat down with James to talk about the new album, some of the other musicians she collaborated with on it, and her life on tour. The interview was followed by a game of "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" in which Sheryl ate some disgusting food she was not eager to taste at all.
Throughout the episode, James Corden kept the audience entertained with his humor, witty commentaries, and the various segments that included sketches, monologues, and special guests. In one segment, he did his "Crosswalk the Musical" segment in which he, Neil, and Sheryl took to the streets to perform a musical number. In another segment, James surprised Constance by showing her footage of her appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" where she talked about being emotional over the sound of her new car's engine.
Overall, the eighth episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden season 5 had something for everyone to enjoy, with Constance Wu's lively chat and Neil Patrick Harris's cheerful presence. And with Sheryl Crow's fantastic musical performance, this episode was a blast to watch from beginning to end.
