The Late Late Show with James Corden season 5 episode 1 aired on September 3rd, 2019, featuring actor Dominic Cooper, actor and singer Jonathan Groff, and musical trio Red Hearse.
Host James Corden kicked off the show with his signature opening monologue, cracking jokes about current events and poking fun at himself. He then welcomed his first guest, Dominic Cooper, known for his roles in Mamma Mia!, The Devil's Double, and Preacher.
Corden and Cooper chatted about Cooper's recent appearance in the hit comedy series, Modern Love, as well as his journey as an actor and his experience working with co-stars such as Colin Farrell and Meryl Streep. Next up was Jonathan Groff, who has appeared on Broadway in shows such as Spring Awakening and Hamilton, as well as in TV series like Glee and Mindhunter. Corden and Groff discussed his role in the hit animated movie Frozen and his upcoming Broadway show, Little Shop of Horrors. They also played a game called "Finish That Lyric," in which they had to sing the next line of well-known songs after the music stopped.
The musical guest for the evening was Red Hearse, a trio consisting of musician and producer Jack Antonoff, singer Sam Dew, and producer Sounwave. They performed two songs from their self-titled debut album, "Honey" and "Half Love".
