Ep 3. Episode 3

Uhtred manages to rescue Mildrith and they flee to Winchester. King Alfred has summoned Uhtred to come and report on his campaign against the Danes but, despite his victorious battle, Odda the Younger distrusts Uhtred and intends to have him removed from the royal court. Meanwhile, Leofric arrives and tells Uhtred that the Danes have a substantial army gathering on the Wessex border and they must help Alfred prepare for battle. Uhtred sees an opportunity to reclaim his ancestral lands and convinces Alfred to allow him to participate in the preparation for battle. However, Uhtred's plan faces unexpected challenges as jealous nobles plot against him and the Danes launch a surprise attack on the Wessex army.
