Doug and Carrie's lives are shaken up when Arthur suddenly decides to move out of their basement and into an apartment. While Doug and Carrie enjoy the new-found freedom, they soon realize that Arthur's absence has left a void in their lives. Meanwhile, Arthur struggles to adjust to his new life without Doug and Carrie, and seeks the companionship of a new group of senior citizens at a local diner. As Doug and Carrie attempt to fill the empty space left by Arthur, they also struggle to come to terms with the fact that their lives may be changing in unexpected ways.
