Doug and Carrie's car is in the shop for repairs, and they are given a loaner car to use until it's ready. They soon realize that the car is much nicer than their old one and become obsessed with it. Doug starts to take care of it like it's his own, even going so far as to make sure there are no crumbs left in it. Carrie becomes jealous of the car and thinks that Doug likes it more than he likes her.
Meanwhile, Arthur decides to take advantage of the situation and uses their car being in the shop as an excuse to get a ride to Atlantic City with Spence. They end up having a wild night and Arthur ends up losing thousands of dollars at the casino. When Doug and Carrie find out, they are angry with Arthur and want him to pay them back. Arthur tries to win the money back at the casino but ends up losing even more.
Back at home, Doug and Carrie continue to fight over the loaner car. Doug even starts to dream about it at night. They eventually decide to take a drive to clear their heads and end up getting lost. They spend the night in the car and realize that they need each other more than they need the car. They return the loaner car and get their old car back, with a renewed appreciation for it and each other.
The episode is a classic example of Doug and Carrie's dynamic, with their obsession over material possessions and their love for each other shining through despite their fights. Arthur's antics add even more humor to the episode, and the subplot of his gambling trip to Atlantic City adds an extra layer of tension to the main storyline. Overall, it's a fun and entertaining episode that showcases the strengths of The King of Queens as a sitcom.
