Linden and Holder continue investigating the case of Rosie Larsen's murder in "Openings," the sixth episode of The Killing's second season. The episode starts with Linden's conversation with her ex-fiance, Rick, who tells Linden about a former colleague they had worked with who had a disturbing obsession with her. Linden is disturbed by this revelation and soon after, she and Holder visit the information technology department of the city's government to get information about Rosie's school laptops and computer records.
Meanwhile, Richmond's mayoral campaign is in full swing as he tries to recover from the scandal involving his leaked sex tape. He's going up against the incumbent Mayor Adams and their debates get heated with both making accusations against each other. Rosie's murder becomes a talking point with Adams blaming Richmond for it and Richmond blaming Adams.
Back to the investigation, Linden and Holder end up following the lead of Belko Royce, the campaign staffer who took Rosie's photo, and suspect him of being involved in her murder. They talk to Belko's former boss, Jamie, who reveals that he suspects Belko of having something to do with the killing due to his odd behavior on the night of the murder.
The episode also has a subplot featuring Richmond and his private investigator, Gwen. Richmond is still reeling from the scandal and the revelation that his former lover, Jamie Wright, was the one who leaked his sex tape to the media. Gwen advises him to make a public apology to show that he's taking responsibility and to not let the scandal define him.
Towards the end of the episode, Linden and Holder discover new evidence that leads them to suspect someone else entirely for Rosie's murder, throwing their investigation and previous suspects into question. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Linden tries to confront the new suspect but is stopped by some surprising news.
"Openings" is a tense and suspenseful episode that keeps viewers on the edge of their seat. It delves further into the murky world of politics and the quest for power, showing just how dirty the game can get. The episode also highlights the toll the investigation is taking on Linden and Holder, both mentally and emotionally, and how it's affecting their personal lives. With new leads and unexpected twists, "Openings" keeps us clamoring for more and eager to find out who really killed Rosie Larsen.
