One of the most watched reality television series on Nat Geo Wild, The Incredible Dr. Pol is a show that features Dr. Jan Pol and his team of veterinarians in their daily work of treating both domestic and farm animals in rural Michigan. Season 14 episode 9 of the show is titled Good Wool Hunting.
The episode begins with a special request from an alpaca farmer who needs Dr. Pol's help on her farm. The farmer is moving to a new location and needs to get her alpacas healthy before the move. Dr. Pol, Dr. Brenda, and Dr. Emily head out to the farm to examine the alpacas.
Upon arrival, the team begins to examine the alpacas one by one, and they discover that most of them are suffering from parasitic infections. They immediately begin treatment, but it becomes evident that some of the alpacas are severely underweight and need additional care. They decide to take a few of the alpacas back to the clinic for further treatment.
At the clinic, Dr. Pol and his team discover that the alpacas have all been suffering from malnutrition, and that the cause of their condition was poor quality hay. It becomes clear that the farmers were cutting corners by feeding the alpacas cheap hay, which resulted in their malnutrition and parasite infestations. The team devises a feeding plan for the alpacas, and with the help of the farmers, they are able to gradually nurse them back to good health.
Meanwhile, back at the clinic, Dr. Pol tends to a sick lamb that was brought in by a worried farmer. The young lamb is suffering from hypothermia, and Dr. Pol and his clinic staff work quickly to warm him up and treat his condition. With some care and TLC, the lamb gradually improves, and Dr. Pol is able to reunite him with his mother.
In another part of Michigan, Dr. Pol is called to a farm where a pet pig is suffering from a swollen leg. The owner of the pig explains that she has been unable to get anyone else to treat the pig, as many veterinarians seem to be unsure how to treat it. Dr. Pol examines the pig and diagnoses her with cellulitis, a bacterial infection that is causing the swelling in her leg. He prescribes antibiotics to treat the infection, and the owners are relieved to know that their pet is in good hands.
Throughout the episode, viewers are treated to a glimpse of what life on a farm is like, as Dr. Pol and his team work through various issues with animals of all shapes and sizes. From alpacas and pigs to sheep and cows, the team's expertise in veterinary care is on full display, and viewers will be amazed by the work that they do on a daily basis.
