In season 13, episode 7 of The Incredible Dr. Pol, titled "Bark 'n Stormy," viewers will follow veterinarian Dr. Jan Pol and his team as they attend to a variety of animal emergencies in central Michigan. As always, the episode begins with the famous greeting from Dr. Pol himself: "Hey, we're going to have a good day!"
The episode opens with a call to Dr. Pol from a concerned owner whose dog is experiencing a severe allergic reaction. The animal's eyes are swollen shut, and he is having difficulty breathing. Dr. Pol and his team quickly load up the van and head out to the farm where the dog is located. On the way, Dr. Pol explains to his assistant, Dr. Brenda Grettenberger, that allergic reactions can be life-threatening, and he will need to act quickly to save the dog's life.
Upon arrival, Dr. Pol identifies the dog's symptoms as consistent with anaphylaxis and immediately administers an epinephrine injection to reverse the reaction. He and Dr. Brenda closely monitor the dog's vitals and slowly bring him back to normal. The relieved owner thanks the doctors, and they move on to the next call.
The next emergency involves a farmer whose mare is having difficulty giving birth. Dr. Pol and the team arrive at the farm and perform a difficult delivery, with the mare experiencing some complications along the way. The team does everything they can to keep the mare and foal stable during labor, ultimately delivering a healthy filly.
After a quick break for lunch, the team is called out to a farm where a group of cows are mysteriously sick with an unknown ailment. Dr. Pol springs into action, examining the cows and taking samples of their blood and feces. He sends the samples back to the clinic for testing and prescribes antibiotics to alleviate the symptoms in the meantime.
As the day winds down, Dr. Pol and Dr. Emily Thomas attend to a yellow lab that ingested a large amount of medication. The dog's owner had accidentally dropped a full bottle of prescription medication on the ground, and the curious lab quickly gobbled up the pills. Dr. Pol administers activated charcoal to help absorb the medication and induces vomiting to expel some of the pills. He prescribes medication to counteract the overdose and advises the owner to monitor the dog closely over the next few days.
As the episode comes to a close, viewers are treated to a glimpse of Dr. Pol's home life, as he and his wife Diane share a meal together and discuss the day's events. The couple reflects on their many years of marriage and how grateful they are for their life together. Dr. Pol remarks that he couldn't do what he does without Diane's support, and viewers are reminded of the close-knit family dynamic that underpins the show's success.
Overall, season 13, episode 7 of The Incredible Dr. Pol provides a fascinating glimpse into the busy life of one of the country's most famous veterinarians. As always, Dr. Pol's compassion and dedication to his work shines through, and viewers are left with a sense of admiration for the tireless work he and his team do to help animals in need.
