The Impossibilities is a web series that tackles the issue of finding something dependable and static amidst a world of constant transition. Set in New York City, the show centers itself around the everyday lives of two individuals, Willa and Harry. While each episode is mostly dedicated to one character or the other, their plot lines increasingly intersect as the show develops.
Willa, as an aspiring yoga teacher, is trying to break into an oversaturated and contemporarily fashionable occupation while Harry is well-trained in a declining industry, that of the professional magician. The Impossibilities focuses on their attempts at self-sufficiency, both mentally and monetarily, while offering an understated and lightly comedic commentary about psychological rigidity in young minds.
Also explored in the show is human sexuality, although more as a vehicle for self-identification and belonging than anything else. Willa is firmly a lesbian, while Harry lives a life of voluntary celibacy. The Impossibilities shies away from an emphasis on sexuality in any gratuitous sense, opting instead to feature it as an important yet conflict-ridden facet of everyday life.
Format-wise, each webisode lasts anywhere between eight and fifteen minutes, making The Impossibilities accommodating of both the binge-watcher and the busy schedule.
