Nessa Stein continues to unravel the mysteries of her father's company and her family's past in this second episode of The Honorable Woman. Titled "The Unfaithful Husband," the episode revolves around Nessa's attempts to strike a deal with a Palestinian businessman named Shlomo Zahary. Despite warnings from her Israeli security team, Nessa insists on meeting with Zahary privately, leading to dangerous consequences.
The episode begins with a scene of Nessa and her brother Ephra (who also works for their father's company) discussing the fallout from their father's death. Nessa is determined to carry on his legacy of working towards peace in the Middle East, but Ephra is convinced that their father was involved in arms dealing and other unsavory activities. He urges Nessa to distance herself from the company and avoid getting entangled in the web of lies and corruption that surround it.
Meanwhile, we see glimpses of Nessa's personal life, including her relationship with her married ex-boyfriend, Atika. Nessa is still clearly in love with Atika, but their affair is complicated by the fact that he is married with children. Atika tries to convince Nessa to come with him to America, but she is hesitant to leave her family and her work behind.
As Nessa prepares for her meeting with Zahary, tensions mount on both sides of the conflict. Israeli officials warn Nessa that Zahary may be working with terrorists and that her safety is at risk. Meanwhile, Palestinian militants threaten Zahary, accusing him of betraying their cause by collaborating with an Israeli company.
Despite the risks, Nessa goes ahead with the meeting, which takes place in a deserted warehouse. The tension is palpable as Zahary and Nessa negotiate, with Zahary demanding that the Israeli company withdraw from a particular project in order to secure his support. As the conversation grows more heated, Nessa's security detail starts to worry that they are being set up.
Sure enough, as they leave the warehouse, Nessa and her team are attacked by a group of Palestinian militants. In the chaos, Nessa is separated from her security detail and ends up alone in the streets of East Jerusalem. Forced to rely on her own wits and resourcefulness, she manages to evade her attackers and make her way back to safety.
The rest of the episode deals with the aftermath of the attack and the fallout from Nessa's meeting with Zahary. Israeli officials and Nessa's own team express anger and frustration that she ignored their warnings and put herself in danger. Meanwhile, Nessa tries to figure out who was behind the attack and how to move forward with her work for peace.
Overall, "The Unfaithful Husband" is a tense and dramatic episode that deepens the intrigue and mystery of The Honorable Woman. With strong performances from Maggie Gyllenhaal and the rest of the cast, the show continues to be a compelling exploration of the complex politics and personal relationships that shape the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
