The Haunting Of... is a reality TV show that showcases renowned mediums, psychics, and clairvoyants as they revisit some of the spookiest places on earth to communicate with the spirits lurking there. The show's first season kickstarts with its premier episode featuring actress Beverley Mitchell.
In this episode, Beverley visits her old family home in Burbank, California. It's a beautiful yet eerie old house once owned by her family. However, their happy memories soon took a downturn when they began to experience unexplainable events in the house. Beverley had never been back to the house since her family moved out when she was younger. She volunteered to come back, hoping to connect with any spirits or energy that had been present.
Everything gets rolling as soon as Beverley steps through the door. She explains how she used to see spirits walking up and down the hallway of this house, but her parents always dismissed her claims as childish imaginations. When she tells this to the medium, the medium replies that children are the most susceptible to seeing spirits and energy that the adults may not be able to see. Moreover, the medium added that this house might have a spirit residing in there who's not happy about the current ownership of the house.
As the medium guides her through the house, Beverley is visibly nervous yet curious about what might happen. She had prepared herself for the worst, excusing her anxiousness as a result of her familiarity with the house. At first, the medium doesn't feel anything, and they walk around the house aimlessly. However, as they approach the kitchen, the energy in the house changes.
They both feel a sudden drop in temperature, and a feeling of dread makes them uncomfortable. Beverley's uneasiness amplifies, and it turns out that energy has picked up on the discomfort. The medium starts sensing and communicating with something dark that resides in the house. As the conversation in the kitchen progresses, it becomes increasingly apparent that this spirit is not happy about them being in the house.
The medium feels like the spirit is trying to communicate something, but it's not clear what. They move to the living room, where the medium feels the energy changing again. He senses and communicates with a deceased member of the family, which claims to visit them often in their dreams.
At this point, the medium leaves Beverley alone for a brief moment, and she takes this opportunity to explore further. As she makes way up the stairs, she felt a sudden rush of energy that made her feel uncomfortable. It's as if something passed through her, and she described the feeling as someone poking her in the ribs.
The medium later explains that these sudden rushes of energy are often caused by spirits passing through our auras. Beverley looks at the medium incredulously, yet she knows that spirits linger everywhere, and as an actor, she's always trying to tap into their energy to prepare for some of her more intense performances. After their conversation, they both head back downstairs and finish their investigation.
The episode ends on an emotional note with Beverley reflecting on her experiences. She admits that before her visit, she was incredibly skeptical of the medium's abilities, but after her experience in the house, she's a firm believer. She also confesses that she has never had anything like this experience before and that it opened up her mind to the world beyond the physical realm.
