When Jack's colleague, Clark, experiences a recent breakup, Emma talks Jack into getting Clark out of their apartment and into the great outdoors. While Clark seems to be clinging to his old relationship, Jack believes that a fishing trip could be just what his colleague needs to mend his broken heart.
However, things don't go as planned when Jack and Clark arrive to find that the lake is closed for repairs. Undeterred, Jack leads Clark on a hike to get to the closest fishing hole, but things only get worse. Along the way, the two of them stumble upon hidden (and very deep) cave system that sends Clark into a panic. His only solace is his cell phone until he realizes that there is no service, and he is trapped with Jack with no communication to the outside world.
As they explore the depths of the cave, tensions rise, and personalities clash. Jack tries to keep the peace even as Clark rants about the many issues he has with Jack's generation. The pair are forced to draw on their own reserves of resilience and ingenuity as they navigate hidden passageways, treacherous terrain, and the ever-present threat of darkness.
As the two men struggle to find their way out, they soon realize that they have a lot in common despite their age differences and professional divides. And as Clark gradually begins to open up about his recent memories with his ex-girlfriend, Jack makes a profound realization about his own relationship with the outdoors and how it might parallel Clark's with his ex.
In the end, the two men are able to come to a truce and discover that all of us are just looking for connection with the world around us, whether it's with nature, love, or the trials and tribulations of daily life. With the help of a little humor and goodwill, Jack and Clark emerge from the cave wiser, stronger, and with newfound respect for one another.
