Past v Future is the thirteenth episode of the first season of the hit show, The Grand Tour. In this episode, the show's three iconic presenters; Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, explore the age-old argument over whether older cars are better than newer ones, or if it's the other way around.
The episode begins with the team each choosing a classic car from the past that they believe is better than any modern car on the market today. Jeremy goes for a 1970s Jaguar XJ6, Richard opts for a 1960s Mustang, and James chooses an exquisite 1970s Rolls Royce. They then set off on a journey through Italy to test the performance of these older cars against today's modern vehicles.
Throughout the episode, the team visits a number of iconic Italian destinations, including the stunning Lake Como and the picturesque Amalfi coast. Along the way, they put their chosen cars through their paces, testing out their speed, handling, and overall performance on winding country roads, on the autobahn, and through busy streets. As always with The Grand Tour, antics and hilarity ensue as each presenter tries to prove that their chosen classic car is the superior vehicle.
Later on in the episode, the team meets up at an airfield for their next challenge. Here, they take on the task of building their own electric cars out of old, vintage vehicles. They each get to work on their creations, with James working on a retro-style Fiat 124 Spider, Richard working on a classic Opel Kadett, and Jeremy turning his sights on a 1980s Lancia Beta.
The competition heats up as each presenter tries to put the finishing touches on their electric car, with a variety of setbacks and mishaps throwing wrenches into their plans. It all comes down to a head-to-head race, with each presenter showing off their skills and the capabilities of their newly-minted electric vehicles.
The Grand Tour's Past v Future episode is an entertaining and informative showcase of the longstanding debate over whether older or newer cars are better. The presenters provide humorous commentary and engaging insights as they explore the merits of classic vehicles and modern technologies. Whether you're a dedicated car enthusiast or simply looking for an entertaining and enlightening journey through the Italian countryside, this episode is not to be missed.
