Waiting for the Knock is the fifth episode of the fourth season of The Good Wife. In this episode, we see Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) persevering through yet another difficult situation. Despite her previous success in winning the competition against Cary Agos (Matt Czuchry) for a position in the firm's litigation department, her struggle continues as she tries to find her place in the new work environment.
While attempting to establish her position in the firm, Alicia is faced with the difficult task of juggling a complicated case with a tight deadline. As the episode progresses, her anxiety begins to consume her, making it difficult for her to focus on the task at hand. In an effort to ease her nerves, she reaches out to Will Gardner (Josh Charles), the firm's managing partner, but his advice only adds to her stress.
Meanwhile, Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi) is also confronting her own set of difficulties as she continues to work as a private investigator. She receives a call from her estranged husband, Nick (Marc Warren), who is currently in jail. Nick demands her help in dealing with an issue that could put her in a compromising position, and she struggles with the decision of whether or not to assist him.
Throughout the episode, the tension continues to build as Alicia and Kalinda navigate their respective dilemmas. The two friends must figure out how to solve their problems effectively, all while maintaining their professionalism and sanity in the face of adversity.
Despite the eventual resolution of both storylines, Waiting for the Knock caps off on a somber note, leaving the audience with the impression that the challenges for these beloved characters are far from over.
