In the seventeenth episode of the first season of The Good Wife, titled "Heart," we see Alicia celebrating her daughter Grace’s birthday. However, the celebrations are short-lived as she receives a call from Peter who tells her that she needs to cancel her plans as she has to take up an emergency case. Flustered, Alicia rushes to the office to find out more details about the case.

The case involves a woman named Sarah, who is sued by her former employer for breach of contract. Sarah had signed an agreement with her employer that she would not work for any other company in the same industry for a period of two years after leaving her job. However, Sarah is now being sued by her former employer for working for a competitor within the two-year period. Sarah claims that she had suffered a heart attack and was advised by her doctor to take on less stressful employment, which led her to take up the job with the competitor. Sarah's doctor testifies to her condition at the hearing.

Alicia and her team are skeptical about the medical report, as they suspect that it might have been fake. To verify the authenticity of the report, they carry out a series of investigations and find out that Sarah's doctor was also treating her employer. Alicia then confronts Sarah's doctor, who admits to lying about Sarah's condition. With this new evidence, Alicia puts up a strong case and wins the suit for Sarah.

Meanwhile, Kalinda is seen investigating a case of a missing girl, whose body was found in a dumpster. The girl had no identification, and Kalinda is tasked with finding out her identity and who was responsible for her death. With the help of a tattoo, Kalinda is successful in identifying the girl. However, Kalinda's investigation takes a shocking turn when she realizes that her ex-husband was involved in the case. This revelation leaves her shaken and she is seen struggling to cope with the situation.

The episode also features a subplot involving Peter's campaign for state's attorney. Peter is seen trying to woo the African-American voters by attending a baptism at a church. However, his efforts are in vain as he is confronted by an angry crowd who protests against his actions. Meanwhile, Peter's campaign manager Eli Gold is seen orchestrating a smear campaign against his opponent, Glenn Childs. Eli's tactics involve spreading rumors about Glenn's personal life to the media to damage his credibility.

The seventeenth episode of The Good Wife, titled "Heart," is a well-written, well-executed episode that further establishes the show's themes of ethics, morality, and politics. Through the various storylines, we see the characters juggle between their personal and professional lives, as they deal with the challenges that come their way. The episode also showcases the show's strength in its character development, as we see Kalinda's vulnerability and Alicia's strong sense of justice. Overall, "Heart" is an engaging, thought-provoking episode that leaves the audience eagerly anticipating what's to come next.
