Premise: The Good Karma Hospital is a British TV drama series set in a coastal town in southern India. The show follows a team of doctors and nurses working at the Good Karma Hospital, a clinic run by the British-Indian doctor Ruby Walker.
Episode 3: In this episode, Ruby (Amrita Acharia) faces a difficult moral dilemma when a pregnant woman arrives at the hospital, suffering from severe complications. The woman, named Shanti, tells Ruby that she wants to terminate her pregnancy, but she lives in a community where abortion is considered a sin.
Ruby is torn between her duty to provide medical treatment to Shanti, and her respect for the cultural traditions of the local community. She seeks advice from her mentor, Dr. Lydia Fonseca (Amanda Redman), who tells her that the decision ultimately lies with the patient, but offers her support either way.
Meanwhile, hospital nurse Mari (Nimmi Harasgama) is dealing with her own personal issues, as her estranged husband arrives at the hospital, seeking reconciliation. Mari is hesitant to forgive him, but ultimately decides to give him a chance, much to the surprise of her colleagues.
Elsewhere in the episode, Dr. Gabriel Varma (James Krishna Floyd) must navigate cultural differences when treating a patient from a neighboring village who is suspicious of modern medicine. And junior doctor AJ (Nikesh Patel) faces a disciplinary hearing after a mistake in surgery.
As always, the stunning Indian scenery provides a backdrop for the emotional and moral dilemmas faced by the characters of The Good Karma Hospital. The show combines high-stakes medical drama with character-driven storytelling, making it a must-watch for fans of both genres.
