On this episode of The Good Fight, titled Day 429, things start off with a jolt when Liz, the firm's private investigator, calls in sick. Although Marissa volunteers to take over her workload, Diane has other ideas and hires Jay, a new investigator, to fill in for Liz. Jay's offbeat personality and knack for finding oddball connections in his cases certainly provide the rest of the team with some amusement.
Meanwhile, the firm is dealing with the case of a man who has been awaiting trial for 429 days on a gun possession charge, thanks to a backlog in the court system. As with many of the cases on the show, there's a political angle involved: the team suspects that the assistant district attorney is dragging his feet on the case in order to curry favor with a certain influential judge. Several members of the team work on getting a hold of the judge's calendar in order to prove their suspicions, while Judge Abernathy (guest star Denis O'Hare), who is friendly with Diane, provides her with some helpful insider knowledge.
Elsewhere in the episode, Maia is still working on her clients' class action suit, which has hit a snag: the defendants' lawyers have requested to see the plaintiffs' social media profiles in order to get a better idea of what they're really like. Since the plaintiffs in question are all teenagers, this raises some serious privacy concerns--not to mention the fact that Maia is pretty sure the defense lawyers would have a field day if they got their hands on some of her clients' Facebook and Instagram posts.
Over at Reddick, Boseman, and Kolstad, Adrian and Barbara are still trying to woo their latest potential partner, a silver-tongued litigator named Colin Morello (guest star Justin Bartha). Colin seems like the perfect candidate--smart, talented, and personable--but after a dinner meeting with him goes awry, it becomes clear that there's more to his intentions than meets the eye.
As always, The Good Fight delivers a fast-paced, engrossing episode that balances humor, drama, and political intrigue with aplomb. Whether you're a longtime fan of the show or a newbie tuning in for the first time, Day 429 promises to be appointment viewing.
