Ep 3. Jimmy 5 Is Alive

In The Goldbergs season 3 episode 3, titled "Jimmy 5 Is Alive," the family's brand new Betamax machine is bestowed with a life-like personality when Beverly, Murray, and Erica go out to buy replacement parts for the VCR. When they return home, they are startled to discover that the machine they left lifeless and as is, now has a voice and a personality named Jimmy. Before long, Jimmy becomes an integral part of the Goldbergs' family, even helping Adam with a school project by reciting lines from classic science fiction films. However, when Jimmy malfunctions, the family realizes that perhaps having a VCR with a mind of its own isn't so great after all. Meanwhile, Barry is still in love with his ex-girlfriend Lainey but doesn't know how to handle the fact that she's now dating someone else. He tries to channel his emotions into a song he's writing for his band but isn't getting very far until he gets some advice from someone he least expects.
