Adam gets his acceptance letter to attend a Philadelphia Flyers game for writing a top-notch essay and he thinks that he can escape from Beverly as she has now become a Flyers superfan. Barry is now more tech-savvy than Murray as he helps him fix the sprinkler system.

The episode starts with Adam’s dream of getting acceptance to Flyers Fantasy Camp and getting coached by his favorite hockey player Bob Clarke. However, the dream pops when he realizes that he has not even sent out his application yet. Beverly, his overbearing mother, takes control and diligently helps Adam write an impressive essay which clinches him his acceptance letter to a real Flyers game.

Meanwhile, Barry helps out his dad with the sprinkler system, which apparently is his secret passion though his technical knowledge does not match up to Barry’s proficiency and he is reduced to playing the role of an assistant to his teenage son. After fixing the sprinkler system, Barry warns his dad that under no circumstance should he accidentally set off the system else he would be held responsible. Poor Murray dismisses his son’s warning and accidentally sets off the sprinklers and is left drenched and frustrated.

Adam and Beverly are super excited about the Flyers game, and Beverly has transformed into a superfan who is determined to be heard in the stadium. She even sews customized Flyers t-shirts for both her and Adam, though Adam's shirt has large, embroidered Flyers on it with his name, while Beverly’s shirt is plain with Adam's name. Beverly is disappointed by their seats at the back but gets more ecstatic when she spots the Flyers’ mascot Gritty, whom she has been obsessed with since he was unveiled in 2018.

Beverly’s scream invites the wrath of the ushers who threaten to throw her out of the stadium if she does not calm down, which frustrates and humiliates her. She is further disappointed when Adam refuses to wear the Flyers t-shirt she sewed for him and instead makes an appearance in a plain white tee followed by his disillusionment of attending a real game and finds it difficult to match up the excitement of his dream camp. Beverly takes out her frustrations on Murray by pouring water from her sports bottle over his head.

Meanwhile, Barry has warned his dad not to set off the sprinklers, but Murray dismisses it and ends up being the victim of his own doing. The dejected and drenched Murray comes to terms with being upstaged by his own son with the technology. He accepts his limits and wants to use what he knows to teach Barry a lesson while also commending him for his technical skills.

The episode ends with Beverly recognizing her overbearing tendencies and apologizing to Adam for focusing more on her own interests than his. Adam, in turn, forgives her and thanks her for supporting him in his dreams. Murray puts Barry’s sprinkler system knowledge to use and teaches him how to do throwback activities, such as driving a car with a stick shift. Adam, Beverly, Murray, and Barry are shown having family time by driving around the neighborhood in Murray’s vintage car while Beverly sits in the back, 'quietly'.

Overall, The Goldbergs Season 1 Episode 10 highlights the Goldbergs family dynamic while tackling sensitive topics related to overbearing parents and the difficulties of being upstaged by technology. The episode does so while incorporating humor that the show is known for, making it a delightful watch for fans and new viewers alike.
