In the fifth episode of the third season of The Goldbergs, titled "Boy Barry," we see Barry struggling to find what he's passionate about. He wants to impress Lainey with his talents, but he can't seem to find anything he's good at.
To start off the episode, we see Beverly and Lainey bonding over their mutual love for Thanksgiving, with Beverly making Lainey a turkey hat to wear. This sets the tone for a Thanksgiving-themed storyline, as the family starts to prepare for the holiday. However, Barry feels left out as he doesn't have any skills to contribute to the festivities. After seeing Erica's success with her band, he decides to start a band of his own. He recruits Adam and a reluctant Geoff to join him, and they begin practicing in the garage.
Barry quickly realizes he's not cut out for music after all, and decides to try his hand at cooking. However, this also proves to be a disaster, with his turkey burning in the oven. With Thanksgiving fast approaching, Barry is running out of time to find something he's good at.
Meanwhile, Murray is dealing with a different crisis - his prized recliner is broken. He's distraught over the thought of having to spend Thanksgiving without his beloved chair, and enlists Adam's help in trying to fix it. Adam tries his best to fix it, but ultimately fails and breaks it even further. This leads to a hilarious scene where Murray and Adam try to hide the broken recliner under a blanket before Beverly can find out.
Just when it seems like all hope is lost for Barry, he discovers a hidden talent for football. He's able to throw a perfect spiral, much to everyone's surprise. This leads to a heartwarming scene where Beverly and Murray cheer on Barry as he practices outside, finally finding something he's good at.
As Thanksgiving approaches, the Goldberg family gathers around the table to enjoy their meal. While some things may not have gone according to plan (such as Murray's broken recliner and Barry's burnt turkey), they're all happy to be together as a family and celebrate the holiday.
Overall, "Boy Barry" is a heartwarming episode that highlights the importance of family and finding your true passions. With plenty of humor and relatable family moments, it's sure to entertain fans of the show.
