When it comes to being a teenager, everybody can relate to those moments when you feel like you just don't fit in. For Adam Goldberg, this is something he's intimately familiar with. The latest episode of The Goldbergs season 2, Cowboy Country, delves into Adam's struggle to adapt to his surroundings and find his own identity.
As the episode opens, Adam is struggling to find himself in the suburban wasteland of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. He's grown weary of the mall culture and the cliques that come with high school life. What he really wants is to embrace his true cowboy self and live out his dreams of the Wild West.
In order to do this, Adam takes cues from his obsession with country music, dressing the part in boots, a cowboy hat, and flannel shirts. He even starts talking in a country drawl, much to the amusement of his family and friends.
Despite the teasing, Adam is determined to live his truth and make his mark on the world. He sets his sights on becoming a country singer, even going so far as to audition for the school's talent show with a rendition of Garth Brooks' "The Thunder Rolls."
But as Adam soon learns, trying to fit into a mold that doesn't fit you can come at a cost. His friends and family begin to distance themselves from him, and even his crush, Dana, can't seem to look past his new cowboy persona.
Feeling rejected and alone, Adam turns to his older sister, Erica, for advice. Erica, at first unwilling to help, eventually gives in and surprises Adam with a trip to Nashville for a country music getaway.
While in Nashville, Adam gets a taste of what it's like to be a true cowboy, immersing himself in the music and culture that he loves. But he also realizes that, in order to be truly happy, he doesn't need to conform to anyone's expectations but his own.
Returning home, Adam's confidence is renewed. He's no longer trying to impress anyone but himself, and he's happy with who he is. He even lands a gig performing at a local country music venue, much to the surprise and delight of his family.
In the end, Cowboy Country is a heartwarming reminder that it's okay to be yourself, even if that means standing out from the crowd. The episode's message of acceptance and self-discovery is sure to resonate with viewers of all ages, making it a must-watch for anyone looking for a feel-good story about finding your place in the world.
