The Goes Wrong Show is back with a brand new season, and the first episode, The Nativity, is sure to have you in stitches. If you're unfamiliar with the show, it's a comedy series that follows the Cornley Drama Society as they attempt to put on a play, but everything that can go wrong, does go wrong.
In this episode, the drama society is taking on the classic Christmas story of the Nativity. The show kicks off with the usual introduction from the announcer, who lets us know that this is "Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society's annual production of their nativity play, The Little Donkey, and the Stocking Standoff".
As the curtains rise, we're introduced to the various cast members, including a bearded Mary, a wise man with a thick accent, and a donkey whose braids are so tight that they're causing him physical pain. The show starts off relatively smoothly, but it isn't long before things start to go awry.
One of the first issues arises when the sheep, played by a cast member named Chris, gets his leg stuck in the manger. Unable to free himself, he's forced to play the rest of the scene with one leg stuck in the hay. As the play progresses, we see a series of hilarious mishaps, including missing prop items, wobbly sets, and missed cues.
There are numerous standout moments in this episode, from the inflatable sheep that refuses to stay upright to the wise men who can't seem to decide which gift is theirs. However, the scene-stealer has to be the donkey. Played by a cast member named Trevor, the donkey steals the show with his over-the-top expressions, physical comedy, and hilarious braids.
As you might expect, the play doesn't go quite as planned, with missed lines, wardrobe malfunctions, and all manner of mishaps. But despite the constant chaos, the cast manages to keep the audience entertained, whether it's through their impressive improv skills or by laughing at their own mistakes.
Throughout the show, we're treated to behind-the-scenes glimpses of the drama society as they attempt to keep the play afloat. We see them scrambling to fix props, trying to wrangle unruly animals, and generally doing their best to keep the show from going completely off the rails.
One of the standout moments in this episode is a clever nod to the theatre tradition of understudies. When one of the cast members can't perform, an understudy steps in to take their place, but things don't quite go as planned. The understudy, played by Cornley Drama Society veteran Sandra, has a penchant for improvisation, which leads to some unexpected and hilarious moments.
The Goes Wrong Show has always excelled in combining physical comedy with clever writing, and this episode is no exception. The Nativity manages to take a familiar story and turn it into a riotous romp filled with laughs from start to finish.
Overall, The Nativity is a hilarious and entertaining start to the second season of The Goes Wrong Show. Whether you're a fan of the first season or tuning in for the first time, this episode is sure to have you laughing out loud. So gather the family, grab some popcorn, and get ready for a Christmas show like no other.
