Despite their best efforts, the egg falls into a swimming pool after a game of pool dunk ( A game the monsters thought of in which the pool serves as a basket for throwing balls). The monsters are devastated, fearing that they have ruined the countess's precious delivery.
With time running out before the Countess returns, Elmo and Phoebe and the rest of the monsters begin to frantically search for a way to fix the broken egg. They try to find a new egg to swap out for the broken one but no luck. Finally, they hit upon a solution. they discovered somehow to mend the cracked eggshell by using ingredients they find in the hotel kitchens.
Just as they complete their makeshift egg repair, the Countess returns to the hotel. The monsters are nervous to present her with the patched up egg, fearing her disappointment.
