In The Flintstones season 1 episode 6, titled "The Monster from the Tar Pits," Fred and Barney are on their way to a fishing trip, but their car breaks down near the tar pits. While they are waiting for help, they hear a strange noise coming from the tar pits.
Curiosity gets the best of them, and they decide to investigate the noise. There, they find a huge prehistoric monster covered in tar, which they quickly name "Gloop." Fred and Barney manage to free Gloop from the tar and take him home as their new pet.
However, it soon becomes clear that Gloop is not a typical pet. He's much larger and stronger than they thought and constantly makes a mess of the Flintstones' house. Their wives, Wilma and Betty, are not happy with Gloop's presence and demand that Fred and Barney get rid of him.
So, Fred and Barney take Gloop back to the tar pits, where they believe he belongs. But once they get there, they realize that Gloop is not the only creature in the tar pits. They come across a whole family of similar prehistoric monsters and decide to bring them all back as pets.
Back at the Flintstones' house, chaos ensues as the prehistoric monsters run rampant and cause destruction. Eventually, Fred and Barney come to their senses and realize that these creatures are not meant to be pets and need to be set free.
In the end, they take the monsters back to the tar pits and say their goodbyes. As they drive away, they can hear the monsters calling out to them, but they know that they made the right decision. Along the way, they pass by a billboard advertising a traveling circus, which gives them an idea.
They decide to buy tickets to the circus and enjoy a day out with their wives, watching all kinds of animals perform. In the end, they realize that having a typical pet, like a cat or a dog, is much easier and enjoyable compared to owning prehistoric monsters.
