In the season 4 episode 20 of The First 48, titled "Get that Money / Senseless," viewers are taken on a journey of two separate homicides that occurred in different parts of the country. The episode starts with a 911 call made by a woman concerned about her boyfriend. The police arrive at the scene to find the victim, Michael, dead in his bedroom. Michael had been shot in the chest and head. The victim's girlfriend tells the police that she had left her home earlier that evening to go to a club. When she returned, she found Michael dead.
Detective Jesse Tilson and his team immediately start investigating Michael's murder. The team visits the club where the victim's girlfriend claims she had been. The team reviews the club's security footage and interviews witnesses to find any possible leads. As the investigation progresses, the team learns that Michael had been involved in drug trafficking. They also learn that Michael had gotten into an argument with a man earlier that same day. The team narrows down their list of suspects and eventually arrests the man who had the argument with Michael. The man eventually confesses to killing Michael.
The episode then transitions to another homicide investigation that occurred in Miami, Florida. The victim, Alex, was found dead in his car, which had crashed into a guardrail. The victim had been shot in the head. The police do not have any leads, and the case goes cold until an anonymous tip comes in. The tipster provides the police with information on a possible suspect. The police immediately start investigating the lead and find that the suspect had been involved in a robbery in the same area on the same night as Alex's murder.
Detective Fernando Bosch and his team work to build a case against the suspect. They examine surveillance footage and interview witnesses to gather evidence. As they work on the case, they find that the suspect had a history of violence and had even posted pictures of himself with guns on social media. Eventually, the team gathers enough evidence to arrest the suspect. The suspect denies the charges but eventually confesses to the crime.
Throughout the episode, viewers are presented with the hard work and dedication of the detectives as they work tirelessly to solve these two murders. The detectives use a variety of methods, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and using forensic evidence to gather crucial information. Viewers are also given an inside look at the emotional toll these cases take on the detectives and the victim's families.
In "Get that Money / Senseless," viewers are shown that the work done by detectives goes beyond catching the criminal.
