In the tenth season, the popular investigative TV series "The First 48" episode 23, titled "Night Out/One Gram," follows two separate cases from different parts of the country.
The "Night Out" case takes place in Birmingham, Alabama, where a young man named Dewayne Chatman got killed in a drive-by shooting. Chatman was a father of two who recently moved back home from Atlanta, so investigators believe the case could be related to his links with local gangs in the city.
As Detective Chris Anderson and his partner, Detective Marcus Lundy, start their investigation, they learn that Chatman had a fight with some of his gang members at a bar the night before. Witnesses claimed they saw the suspected shooter, but identifying the suspect reveals to be a daunting task. The detectives also find a potential witness who could help the case, but he's refusing to cooperate with the police.
In the other case, a woman calls 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend, Jose Delarosa, was shot in their house in San Antonio, Texas. When the officers arrive at the scene, Delarosa is already dead. The victim's ex-girlfriend claims to have been at work when the shooting occurred and points the police towards Delarosa's current girlfriend, Gail Diaz.
Detectives Ulises Lujan and Timm Angell catch the case and discover that Delarosa and Diaz were selling drugs together. They eventually track down the suspects, who claim to have no involvement in the killing. Lujan and Angell arrest them both and begin their search for the murder weapon.
As the clock ticks towards the 48-hour deadline after the crime, the investigators work to get to the bottom of these two cases before the chances of a successful result evaporate. They log countless interview hours, pore over pieces of evidence, track down potential witnesses, and rely on their instincts and skillsets to uncover the truth.
Will they be able to get to the bottom of each case before time runs out? Tune in to "Night Out/One Gram" on "The First 48" to find out.
