In season 5 episode 6 of The FBI Files, titled "Tracks of a Killer," viewers are taken on a journey to solve the case of a serial killer who has evaded the authorities for over a decade.

The episode begins with a gruesome discovery in a vacant lot in Houston, Texas – the body of a young woman, strangled and left in the open. The crime scene quickly reveals that this is the work of a serial killer, as the victim bears similarities to other unsolved cases across multiple states.

The FBI's Behavioral Science Unit is called in to analyze the crime scene, and they immediately identify the killer's signature – marks on the victim's neck consistent with a specific ligature technique. The team uses this information to create a profile of the killer, which they share with detectives across the country who are investigating similar cases.

Days later, another victim is found in New Orleans, Louisiana – this one also a young woman, strangled with the same ligature technique. With the profile of the killer in hand, authorities are able to confirm that these cases are indeed connected.

As the investigation continues, the team discovers that the killer has been traveling the country as a long-haul truck driver, using his job to conceal his murders. The FBI works closely with trucking companies to track down drivers with a history of stopping in cities where the murders occurred.

Finally, a break in the case comes when a truck driver is pulled over in Florida for a routine traffic violation. After some digging, agents discover that this driver matches the profile of the killer – he has an extensive history of sexual assault and violent behavior. They also find evidence linking him to one of the murders.

With this information, the FBI is able to obtain a warrant to search the truck driver's vehicle, where they find a stash of trophies he had taken from his victims as well as a tape recording of him confessing to several of the murders. The driver is arrested and eventually confesses to killing at least ten women across the country.

The episode concludes with interviews from the families of the victims, who express their relief and gratitude that justice has finally been served. Viewers are left with a chilling reminder that serial killers can be anyone – even those we trust to share the roads with us.

Overall, "Tracks of a Killer" is a gripping episode of The FBI Files that highlights the tireless work of law enforcement to bring justice to victims and their families. The episode showcases the use of forensic science, profiling, and inter-agency collaboration to solve complex cases and showcases the dogged determination of the FBI in bringing serial killers to justice.
